The Week Ahead 28 Jan 2013

Now free of snow and ice (at the time of writing anyway!), the Severn Bridge is the place to be at 7.30 on Tuesday. Postponed from last week, we're expecting a good number of our Juniors to take part especially at the 3k distance for their first Club Championship race, with adults more likely to tackle the traditional 5k.
Meet at the LC at 6.50 to jog down or share cars, or park by Homebase and walk up the ramp to the up-river side of the Bridge.

A nice choice on Thursday - EITHER the Old Ferry Inn run down to Beachley and back, OR for those who need their monthly fix, the Thornwell Loop.

And finally, a new venue for the LCL cross-country: the riverbank at Monmouth. It's the Spirit of Monmouth's inaugural staging of the competition and they're expecting a good turnout. It'll be pretty flat and about 4 miles for women and probably 6ish for the men
Meet at our LC at 9.30 for an 11 o'c start. You can book a seat on the minibus via the Bulletin Board, or share cars. Parking will be at the Boys' School sports car park (where we parked for the Kymin Fell recently), with an overflow on their sports field on the otherside of the road.
Contact Syd during this week if you've never done any sort of LCL race before. He needs to allocate a unique number for the results sheet. You don't need a physical one, so a phone call, email or PM will do the trick.

Tonight's Runs - Thurs 24 Jan

The advertised route tonight is the Hayesgate run. A check this afternoon found the lanes free of snow but quite wet. If we get below zero temperatures this evening some ice can be expected, and runners are advised to carry a torch and take care.
We also have an alternative off-road route planned across Piercefield Park to St Arvans and then across the fields by Rogerstone Grange. Off-road shoes and a torch are recommended.

Rollick Replay Now 14 April

Riverbank Rollick Race Director Dave Andrews has confirmed that the postponed race will now be run on 14 April.
Eagle-eyed fell fans will note with or without relish that it's the day after the Sugar Loaf.

The Week Ahead 21 Jan 2013

You will have heard by now dear reader that Tuesday's Bridge 5k Time Trial has been postponed to next week because of the weather.
In its place, and because of the slippery conditions on the roads and pavements, we are doing a session on the Leis Ctre field of 10 sets of 2 minutes fast/1 minute jog recovery. This worked very well the last time we were forced off the roads.
It may be advisable to wear shoes with a good grip and a head torch.
Thursday's run is planned for the Hayesgate route. If conditions are stll bad we may have to think again.

Tuesday's Time Trial Postponed

We regret that we've had to postpone this Tuesday's S Bridge 5k to next Tuesday 29 Jan.

This morning (Monday) we had a look at the Bridge and the approach road, and although there is some thawing today, there are forecasts of further snow and low temperatures.

With the side roads and pavements in Chepstow likely to be still tricky, we thought we'd repeat what we did a couple of years ago in the same circumstances - a session on the Leis Ctre field of 10 sets of 2 minutes fast/1 minute recovery.

Apologies to those inconvenienced, and thanks to those who volunteered to help Mike with the TT timing and turn-rounds. We hope everyone will be available to make a success of next Tuesday.

The Week Ahead 14 January 2013

You will have read in this space a few days ago that we've changed this Tuesday's session from the Danes Steps to the Danes Loop. We'll be doing six or five laps clockwise with the recovery along Kingsmark Lane.

Thursday's run is the Tour of the Town. Shall we do it anticlockwise for a change. A quick vote on the night will decide but you may like to state a preference as a Comment here.

The first Club Championship of 2013 is Sunday's Riverbanl Rollick. Now closed for entry, those who have been accepted are invited to the Anchor in Thornbury for post-race refreshments.

Tuesday Training - Change of Plan

We said in WotsOn that we'd do some new training next Tues 15 Jan - a steps session in the Danes Park.

That depended on our acquiring some new lighting that we'll be sharing with the Juniors but it looks like it won't be here on time.

So we'll be doing a traditional Danes Loop in a clockwise direction. 6 loops for ABC, and 5 for DEF. Apols for any disappointment.

The Week Ahead 7 Jan 2013

Coach Mike has come up with a new hill session on Tuesday familiar to those who've done the Running Form training. The Tunnel Hill is the traffic-free gradient leading up from the Severn Bridge tunnel to the track that we do our 5k Time Trial upon.
Some members may prefer to drive all the way down, or maybe to the top of the link road.
After Thursday's Mathern Run (5 or 7 miles according to taste) why not pop down to Spoons for Curry Night?!

Road Closed at Redbrook - Kymin Race

If you're going to the Kymin race today I just heard that the valley road to Monmouth is closed at Redbrook - so could be worth coming thro St. Arvans and taking the Trelleck rd to Monmouth - then going back towards Lidl.
