Mob Match - Thursday 31st May. 7:30pm

YOUR CLUB NEEDS YOU.  Thursday 31st May at 7.30pm on the Severn Bridge we will be challenging Thornbury Club to this years Mob Match. The event will be 5k along our usual time trial out and back course.followed by presentation of the trophy to the winning club and refreshments at the Leisure Centre afterwards.  Everyone who finishes scores points for their club and the winner is the club scoring most points.

Last year we lost narrowly and just 2 more of our slowest runners or even 1 fast runner would have secured the odd points needed to win.  This year on home territory we want to win the trophy back so we need every club member who can even hobble 5k to run for us.    Be there!!

The Week Ahead 28 May 2012

One of the Club’s favourites on Tuesday – Up The Clock on the track. You need to pace your effort on this one, so listen carefully to what our Coach says (for a change eh?).

Then on Thursday, the big one! You’ll have read Syd’s call to arms. It’s all hands to the pumps (just to mix the metaphors). Every able runner will give us points and hopefully help us regain the fabled trophy from our Thornbury chums.

Then back to the Leis Ctre for chip butties and the prizegiving.

Be there if you possibly can.

Watching the Rack Raid Sunday 27th May

Please support where you can - lovely weather for it!

For supporting the Rack Raid locally

Kath, me and Den should be coming into Usk Square from 1.20pm.

Paul Murrin, Matthew and Gerry will be embarking on the toughest leg 13.8 miles Usk to Tintern from the square at 1.20 too.

If you go through Devauden towards Trellech for about 2 miles to the crossroads above Cobblers Plain runners on this gruelling stage will have done their last huge hill and cross over the Devauden Road towards Tintern – from about 2.30pm.

They will finish at Tintern Abbey where Mark, Niki and Berna will set off to Chepstow at 2.50.

A good place to see the runners on this stage is Devauden Village Green ( half a mile on past the handicap carpark ).

Mark Niki and Berna should be coming down through the Dell to Chep Castle from just before 4pm – when Dave, Sam and Jane Rymer will be heading up the Dell to Caldicot.

A good place to support Dave, Sam and Jane is to park at the Indian Empire on the A48 and walk back to the cut though just down the road ( there will be lots of people here ).

Their finish is in the grounds of Caldicot Castle where Joc, Helen and Beckie will be starting at 4.38 pm.

You are welcome to follow the relay for the rest of the day or just come to the finish -

to watch our final runners come up the hill to the Castell-y-Bwch where there will be food available and the prize giving happens.

Handicap 1 results

Thank you to everyone who took part in last night's handicap in Chepstow Park Woods, whether you helped, raced, ran round, supported.  Special thanks to Brenda who floured the course earlier in the day - she was not responsible for the lack of start/finish line, I take full responsibility for that one...oops!

Anyway, here are the results.  First home was Gareth Jenkins, well done!  Fastest on the night was Mark with 30:20 and Niki with 33.40.  Niki was also the one person who ran exactly her handicap time.  A couple of people I know ran PBs, so well done!  And great to have so many juniors running!

Handicap 1 Thursday 17th May - start list

Here is the start list for Thursday's handicap 1.

If you are not on the list and you would like to run then just post below and I'll add your name.

Please note that some people have 'unchecked' handicaps because they have not done any races I know of recently, so they cannot score points on Thursday. These are marked in yellow.  Once they have done a handicap then they can start scoring points for the next three.  Best 3 total scores out of the 4 races wins the series.

Thursday’s Run

Geoff has kindly written this description for us:

Wales Coastal Path Route Description

From LC, run down Welsh Street and into the Dell on past the castle to the Old
Bridge to pick up the coastal path signs.  The signs are pictures of a yellow shell set into a circular concrete tablet in the footpath or a shell shape cut into a wooden finger post.

Follow the signs along the path past the band stand and return up into Chepstow  running past St Mary's Church.

Go through the car park  and the underpass beneath the A48 up the steps and on up School Hill.  Through the wall at the top and on to the junction with Hardwick Avenue. Following the yellow shell coastal path logo all the way.

Go down Hardwick avenue and turn right up Wye crescent Follow the Finger post signs, along the road and onto the first bit of trail up and around the allotments.

Run on along the path at the back of the industrial estate at Bulwark and on to turn left into Victoria road then first right into Raglan way following the signs run down the tarmac path to the junction
where the Sea wall route goes through the railway embankment.  Do not take this turn but carry straight on up the hill and along a well laid out gravel path through to Thornwell and the football pitch following the signs on the finger posts.

From the Thornwell football ground run down the hill towards and through the motorway underpass,  on the far side of the underpass turn right and follow the signs and path until you arrive at Mathern Farm.

7 MILE ROUTE From Mathern Farm cut back over the motorway pedestrian/cattle bridge and up the fields coming out on the Mathern road turning right to return to Leisure centre via Fair view etc.

6 MILE ROUTE To cut it shorter you could just go down Welsh street and then up the hill past the police station to the top underpass and pick up the route from the fingerpost at the top of Hardwick avenue

9 MILE ROUTE To go longer at Mathern farm turn left and follow the path down over the railway and on to the sea wall.  Running the sea wall run in reverse back under the Severn bridge to rejoin the coastal path route at the tunnel beneath the railway run up the tarmac path back up to Raglan Way and to the rear of the Bulwark Ind. Est. to Hardwick Avenue and straight back to the leisure centre.

11 MILE ROUTE Alternatively from Mathern farm carry on following the coastal path signs skirting the golf course and on until you reach the railway at Red Cliff .  At Red Cliff you can return following the flood bank/sea wall under the Severn bridge run alongside the railway and under the track (Again Sea Wall route in reverse).  I think that this will be about 10.5 to 11 miles.

Rose Inn 8 May - Important Notice

The first race of the 2012 Rose Inn 4 Mile Series takes place next Tuesday (8th May). The Redwick Village Hall is currently being rebuilt and won't be available for use as Race HQ until the July race. This has the downside that we've had to make alternative arrangements for May and June, but the upside is that from July on we'll have the use of a fantastic new facility complete with showers!

So, for the May and June races:

- Car parking space will be limited to about 80% of the usual area

- Registration will take place in the Rose Inn pub

- Portable loos will be provided in the parking field

- Kit storage before & during the race will need to be outside or in cars

With these things in mind, please DO share lifts to the events as much as you can, allow plenty of time to park & register, and go to the loo before you leave the house!! The organisers will be doing everything they can to make these races as excellent as they usually are despite the reduced facilities. We'd be grateful if runners would bear with us whilst we wait for the Hall to be completed, and work with us to ensure the events' success.

See you next Tuesday for yet another series of fantastic, flat and fast Rose Inn races!"

Runners coming to the first Rose Inn next Tuesday 8 May are urged to share cars as much as possible. Available parking space is limited while the new Village Hall is being built.

And of course without the Hall, changing and toilet facilities will be basic at best.

But the race itself will be its usual sparkling self – so don’t be put off coming!

The new Hall is scheduled to be completed by June.
