The Week Ahead 30 April 2012

On Tuesday it’s off to Cwmbran for the first Leisure Ctre League road race of this year. It’s the usual course from the Oasis Club near Cwmbran station. Meet at the LC at 6.20 ready to be on the road by 6.30.

If you haven’t done an LCL before, they’re always good races with no entry fee or form-filling. Just ask Syd for your permanent LCL race number. You can win points for the Club and for yourself in your age group category.

And after the race, there’ll be a little social get-together with nibbles when the cross-country trophies will be handed out. The Chepstow men’s and women’s teams have trophies to collect, as well as some of our individuals in the age group categories.

A new run on Thursday. You may have read about the new Wales Coast Path that starts in Chepstow and goes right round the whole coast of Wales. We’re going to do just the first few miles through the town, past Newhouse Farm to Mathern, and  across St Pierre to the sea wall. Then we’ll return back along the sea wall.

The full run will be about 8 miles, but you can cut across to the coast from Mathern and do about 5 miles.

Offa’s Orror - Message from Hallowed Race Organiser!

This year proved a bit of a rollercoaster with a new course and change of Race HQ.

Many people spent many hours choosing the course, identifying marshalling points, identifying marshals, course setting, water stations and liaising with the locals to bring us from Tintern to Brockweir.

The backroom boys and girls sorted entries, promotion, website, marketing, sponsorship, first aid and catering.

On the day so many Harriers turned up to do all the jobs that a commercial race couldn’t possibly compete with, producing a challenging and fun running experience delivered by runners for runners at a cost that didn’t break the bank.

Runners voted with their feet by turning up in numbers just shy of our entries record last year. Plaudits and praise were in abundance at the Finish, in the Hall and subsequently by email and Runners World.

It was hard old graft but we are now well on the map in our new location and another event successfully under the belt further securing our reputation as a decent lot and providing some financial support for Club aspirations this Year.

So, without naming the names, I would like to offer my warmest thanks to all those who gave up their time on this and previous occasions as without your continued support this event could not have taken place.

Regards

Col

Bunny Run 4, Thursday 26th, 7.15pm

It's the last Bunny Run, the long-awaited relays.

First leg off at 7.15pm so can you please make sure you make yourselves known to me by 7.05pm so I can start planning teams.

Prizes for: fastest team, best dressed 3 people (not necessarily in the same team), fastest juniors, and other categories if I have spare prizes and more imagination.  Chocolate for everyone and then a drink and chip butty at the Millers Arms in Mathern.

Lancuat Trail - time trial… :-D

Hello Chepstow Harriers,

I manage the Lancaut Nature Reserve for Gloucestershire Wildlife Trust and have posted locally a short cross country run (offas orror esc).

"Like a new challenge? Like wilderness? Short of time?
Try Lancaut trail, time yourself from interpretation panel to interpretation panel following the red way marker arrows and post your time at:

www.facebook.com/gwtforestofdean
The top ten runners will be updated on the Lancaut notice board. 11mins 23 secs is the time to beat!
Distance 1.2mile, Ascent: 426ft, Descent 525ft,
PLEASE NOTE:
this trail is very rugged with slippy clay soils, loose rocks and a boulder scree. Ensure you are familiar with the terrain and run within your abilities.
Always give way to other visitors."

The Week Ahead 16 April 2012

If you haven’t done the Bunny Run, it’s your final chance to gain valuable Club Champs on Tuesday in St Pierre Great Wood. The last of the series of three starts as usual at 7.15.

On Thursday we take to the Gloucestershire Way for the first time this season. A nice run with a couple of turn-off points so you can run the distance that suits.

The mighty Offa’s Orror on Sunday. Most people have volunteered their services as entry takers, marshals, water stationers, sweepers etc or are running the 12 miler – but if you haven’t signed up yet why not put your name on a Comment below and we can hopefully make you part of the team.

Bunny Run 3, Tuesday 17th, 7.15pm

Reminder that Tuesday is Bunny Run 3.  This is the 3rd and final opportunity to run the 2-lap course, so come and enjoy a lovely run among the bluebells and have a go at improving your time!  The run also qualifies for the 2012 Club Championship.

As usual the start will be at 7.15pm so if you want to jog over then meet at LC ready to leave in plenty of time.

The Week Ahead 9 April 2012

Well, a good turnout for the first Bunny Run last Thursday bodes well for the second edition this Tuesday. Same place (St Pierre Great Wood at the top of Ticken Hill), same time (7.15 start – meet to share cars at 6.45, or start jogging from the LC at that time for a good warm up.)

Watch out – the LC closes at 7.30.

Thursday takes us round the 3 (2 really) Woods, with a bit more daylight than the last time.

Then on Sunday we welcome the Welsh Athletics physiotherapist for a fascinating talk on the spine and its effect on your running performance. Dr Liba Sheeran will be in Room 15 downstairs in the LC from 10.30 – 12.30. Don’t miss her: we all thought she was brilliant when she talked to us about running injuries a couple of years ago.

If you’re planning to share cars to the Run on Thursday you’re advised to meet at the top of the LC steps ready to leave at 6.45.

The Week Ahead 2 April 2012

Chris Rees starts his stint as Coach of the Month  on Tuesday with a new session over in flow’ry Piercefield Park. It’s Kenyan Hills  and it does sound fun.

Then haste back to the Leisure Centre bar for Kit’n’Cake evening. John Wright will have lots of new Club Kit to try on and buy, with home-made cakes to enjoy while you consider your purchases!

Readers are also encouraged to bring along unwanted clothes, running or not, for all to share. Unwanted items will be passed to a charity shop.

And if it’s fun you’re after, then there’ll be furry bundles of it on Thursday with the first of the keenly awaited Bunny Runs. Not only is it a golden opportunity to rack up priceless Club Championship points, but organiser Vanessa will be looking for cute little bunny tails to award cute little prizes for.

It’s a cute little course of two laps round St Pierre Great Wood and comes in just under four miles in total. Meet at LC just before 7 as usual.

And Happy Easter to you dear reader/s
