The Week Ahead 16 July 2012

Meet at the LC at 6.30 to share cars to Pontypool Park for Tuesday’s LCL race, starting at 7.30. Postcode is NP4 8AT. This is a nice varied course that’s been revived from the early days of the LCL: a couple of hills but also lots of flat stretches including a lovely run along the canal towpath. Thursday’s run is also a revived route, taking in Sedbury, Tidenham churchyard, a run across the fields to Boughspring Lane, and a return along Offa’s Dyke. Maps available on the night. And a fitting climax to the week, July’s Club Champs race will be Sue and Gerry’s Waun Fach fell race. One of the most scenic events in the calendar with a delightful swooping finish along a gently descending ridge and a short sharp sting in the tail to the finish on Castle Hill. You get most of the climb over in the first half, and you can tell everyone you reached the highest point in the whole of the Black Mountains. Saturday at 2pm from the Castle Inn at Pengenffordd, only £2.50 on the day for 7 miles of good running surface. http://www.waunfach.fellrace.com/index.htm Watch this space for travel details

  1. Don't forget that you need to bring the following to Waun Fach, best carried in a bumbag/small rucksack:

    Windproof top
    Windproof bottoms
    whistle
    compass
    map (provided at registration)

also note that if weather is v bad the windproof requirement could be upgraded to waterproof. Take more kit than you might need, you can always choose when you get there. The weather is always worse in the hills than down in Chepstow.

Remember: No kit = not being allowed to race!

Takes about 1 hour to travel to Pengenffordd so people can meet at LC ready to leave at 12.15 to share lifts. Please post below or on BB if you plan to meet at LC, to have an idea of numbers.
