The Week Ahead 25 July 2011

This Tuesday’s session is a popular one that Rich Matthews’ dad introduced to us some time ago. Up The Clock takes us round the track at speed to a set point on the far side, followed by a jog recovery back to the start. We then run at speed again to a point 10 metres further than the first point, followed by a 10 metre shorter recovery. And so on, with an extra 10 metres each time and 10 metres less recovery. Sounds tough but it works very well.

On Thursday it’s across Piercefield Park, up to Wyndcliff, along the Wye Valley Walk to Porthcasseg, and then up to Gaer Hill, and back home.

The Magor Marsh race director, Rob Brown would still be delighted to hear from anyone who can help on Sunday. Please add a Comment below this Blog if you can help in any way.

The Week Ahead 18 July 2011

The next Leisure Centre League race is on Tuesday starting from Caerleon College campus. You’ll have seen the recent Club email with all the details. Have a good run.

On Thursday Ivan is putting on the Piercefield Park Loop session that was so popular a couple of weeks ago. This is a new session that takes into account the range of abilities, and ensures that we all start and finish at the same time. Ivan has scheduled the Nuns’ Walk run as an alternative, but the P Park Loop is highly recommended.

And a quick word about the Waun Fach fell race on Saturday. As Sue and Gerry the organisers say, it’s one of the best races in South Wales. Race HQ is the Castle Inn at Pengenfford, on the road to Talgarth, just along from Crickhowell. Starts at 2pm, just £2.50, and 7 miles of fantastic views. Or to get a taste for fell running, why not contact Sue and volunteer to marshal? That way you can do a gentle walk, and enjoy the hills without exerting yourself too much!

IMPORTANT: Caerleon LCL Race Tuesday 19th July

The Caerleon race is now a new route -  parking is in the University grounds where we need to be for 7.15 pm ready to walk to the start at St. Cadoc's Hospital

Meeting time at Chepstow Leisure Centre - 6.20 p.m.

A summary of the rules for this race - please read!

Caerleon Running Club Leisure League Race Route – 19th July 2011

4 Main Rules:

University of Wales (Newport), Caerleon Campus – Only park vehicles in the designated bays on the campus.

St Cadoc’s Hospital – Race start. No one must deviate from the roads we are using for the run, and certainly no one should relieve themselves in the bushes or take any other liberties.

The Highway –any runner who strays from the pavement on Lodge Road or Pillmawr Road WILL BE DISQUALIFIED. Both areas will be marshalled. Follow any instructions from these marshals.

The Cyclepath & Pillmawr Road – Runners will be passing each other in opposite directions so all competitors to stay on the left side of the path when approaching runners coming in the opposite direction.

Runners are welcome to use the changing and shower facilities in the Sports Centre, and the Students Union Bar has been opened especially for the evening, so we would be glad if members of other clubs would care to join us for a post-run beverage!

The Week Ahead 4 July 2011

A chance to get in some valuable training this Tuesday and Thursday – tho’ there is the distraction of an E Wales Championship race in between!

July’s Coach of the Month, Ivan Teed (not Chris Rees as I stupidly posted originally), has devised a new session for Piercefield Park on Tuesday. There are four different length loops to choose from – they are roughly: 900 metres, 8oo mtrs, 600 mtrs or 500 mtrs. You have 5 minutes to both run your loop and recover before the whistle blows for the next effort.

The E Wales Champs race on Wednesday evening is the Cwmcarn Drive 7 mile race just the other side of Risca. It’s 7 miles on a traffic-free half uphill/half downhill road circuit within the Cwmcarn Country Park. Entry on the night: meet at the LC at 5.30.  Thursday’s run is over the 3 Woods circuit starting with Great Barnetts Wood.
